They’re quick to point out that alternative therapies should never be used instead of regular medical treatment for serious problems such as heart disease or cancer. But they do say many health problems can be successfully treated with non-traditional care alone – including back pain, sports injuries, anxiety, and depression.

What is “alternative” about alternative healing? Well, because it’s a term used to describe medicines and treatments outside the realm of conventional Western medicine. So, “alternative” therapies include everything from acupuncture to aromatherapy.

It’s based on “like cures like” – that is, substances that can cause the same symptoms as the ones you’re suffering from can help to cure them. A diluted mixture of these causes your body to heal itself. However, many experts don’t believe it works at all!

Benefits of Alternative Healing:

Alternative healing is very popular. It’s also pretty controversial because most of the claims made by alternative healers are not backed up by scientific research. Whether or not you believe in it, there are some benefits to these practices:

They encourage people to take more responsibility for their health and wellness. Many conventional physicians will tell you there’s nothing they can do if your condition isn’t life-threatening, so many patients have no choice but to live with pain or discomfort that doesn’t go away. Alternative healers, on the other hand, say that when their treatments work it’s because their patient wants them to – which you might agree is a very powerful thing!

It gives you options. When something seems wrong with your body, you can either wait to see what happens or try something different. Even if you don’t end up feeling better, at least you know you’ve done everything possible to feel better faster.

Many alternative healers are open-minded about conventional medicine. They want to use whatever works best for their patients, regardless of whether that’s a treatment they would normally suggest themselves.

They’re more affordable. For example, herbal medicines are often available for free at health food stores because the ingredients are cheap and easy to find! Other methods may be surprisingly inexpensive because all you need is yourself – no fancy equipment required – not even any special clothes.
